Remembering Nobel Laureate – Osamu Shimomura: Voice of Biotecnika Podcast
Seventy-three years ago on a Thursday morning, August 1945, while following the bomber planes, he noticed them taking an unusual route towards the center of the city. As soon as he sat down for work in a factory seven and a half miles from Nagasaki, Japan, a powerful flash of light came through the small windows. All were briefly blinded for about 30 seconds and then, about 40 seconds after the flash, a loud sound and sudden change of air pressure followed. There was a huge explosion somewhere, but no one knew where.
It was the atomic bomb being dropped on Nagasaki!
